On Saturday Art entered his 10th year of aliveness. He had a pretty great day, which ended in pumpkin pie, his favorite.

“I not want to be die”
Just now Netta (4), more than a half hour after the other children went to sleep, was close to tears as she called me up to her room. “Papa,” she said. “I not want to be die, I just want be alive.” My heart melted. I can understand that fear! We all can. I told her (with fake certainty) that she will not die for a super long time. And then I pretended to be ‘die’ as a flopped on top of her which got some solid laughter. Of course she’s right to realize she’ll die and it is a super scary thought to have. I’m feeling especially grateful right now for Netta and her thinking and her aliveness.
Thinking friends.
