This was taken a day after he was born. It was Art’s second time seeing his brother.
We’re home!
Hello all Art and Art’s Brother Lovers. We’re home today! It was a beautiful, sunny day to come home from the hospital. Ben was all squished up to the steering wheel driving our Toyota Echo with a baby car seat behind him. We’ll have to do something about that. Art kept asking, “What’s the baby doing?” on the long, 5 minute drive home (we only live one mile from the hospital) and then stayed in the backyard for several minutes playing with rocks before he came inside.
I walked into a sparkling clean home, thanks to Ben, and got to nurse the baby in the nice glider rocker and put on his first cloth diaper. My mom made us Art’s favorite dinner, Chicken with Rice, and we all ate together and had chocolate ice cream for dessert. Art, of course, wanted more ice cream and even had the nerve to go to Ben and say, “I want some of Papa’s ice cream!”
We saw our next door neighbor after dinner and she congratulated us. We told her about the crazy labor and racing down Park Ave at 60 miles an hour Friday morning. She said, “Yeah, I remember seeing one of you, I think it was Ben, hussling on Friday morning and then I didn’t see anyone for a couple days. I told [my partner] that I thought they probably had the baby…”
So, baby still does not have a name. Actually, don’t expect a name for maybe even a week or more. We’ve resigned to think about it just now and then and focus on being a family. We’re a FAMILY! There’s FOUR of us, now! Poor Carma. Even further down the ladder now…

What Jess wrote a few hours before delivery.
For at least a month now Jessica has been sleeping poorly because of her absurd shape and wrestless legs (they would move every few seconds all night). At 2:58a.m. last night (the same morning she gave birth) she was up and wrote this funny e-mail:
“I’m so tired, and so very tired of being unable to stay asleep more than 10 minutes. And having a baby pressing itself against my cervix and pubic bone. I was all content to stay pregnant as long as Art’s brother wanted to stay in. I even told Josh today that I’m happy to wait because we get to cherish this time, just the three of us, before Art’s not the only one anymore. But this is ridiculous.”
She must have sent some sort of unconcious message to that baby, “I’m ready for you to get out of my body please!” And he did. Quickly. And now she’s getting a nice long sleep.
